Laundromat & Dry Cleaner
Run a laundromat with a dry-cleaning counter in a town of 22,000: renters' weekly wash, wash-and-fold for busy families, the motels' sheets and the Sunday suit, against an old coin laundry and a dry-cleaning drop shop.
You have thirty washers, thirty dryers, a folding table, a dry-cleaning counter and a parking lot by the apartments. Twenty-two thousand people live in town and forty thousand in the county; a third of the town rents, and plenty of apartments have no machines. The decisions are a laundromat's: what to charge per load when the old coin laundry is cheaper and dirtier, whether to add wash-and-fold and pickup, how many attendants to keep on when the machines do most of the work, and whether to go after the motels, salons and restaurants with commercial accounts. It teaches a capital-heavy, low-labour business: machine capacity and utilisation, utility costs, and how services layered on a building full of machines change what it earns.
